The NDIS is a governmental scheme providing targeted support and funding to Australians with disabilities.
Managed by the NDIA, it facilitates greater independence, skill development, community participation, and an enhanced quality of life. It operates on the principle of fostering long-term well-being by investing in people with disabilities early in their lives.
The NDIS is adaptable, catering to the unique needs of each individual, supporting a diverse range of goals and aspirations.The NDIS is a national support scheme for Australians with a disability, providing direct funding to individuals. To access the NDIS, one must qualify based on specific eligibility criteria. Eligible participants create a personalised plan outlining their goals and the support needed. The scheme helps individuals start their plan, manage their funding, and offers a process for plan reassessment to ensure ongoing alignment with their objectives. It aims to support around 500,000 Australians within the next five years, enabling many to receive necessary support for the first time.
Eligibility for NDIS funding is determined by the NDIA and is generally based on the following criteria:

Having a permanent and significant disability that affects one's ability to take part in everyday activities.

Being aged less than 65 when first accessing the scheme.

Being an Australian citizen, a holder of a permanent visa, or a Protected Special Category visa holder.

Living in Australia where the NDIS is available.
Individual circumstances are assessed, and the final decision on eligibility is made by the NDIA. Individuals who meet these criteria may apply for NDIS funding by completing an Access Request Form.

NDIS providers are essential to the delivery of services to participants of the NDIS. They can be individuals, businesses, or organisations with varied expertise, offering a range of supports as per the participants' plans. Registered providers adhere to strict guidelines and the NDIS Code of Conduct, ensuring quality and safeguarding participant rights. Providers work closely with participants to tailor services to their needs, manage service agreements and bookings, and uphold the values of the NDIS. Participants with NDIA-managed funding must use registered providers, while those who self-manage or use a plan manager have more flexibility.
